While nursing school exams are knowledge-based, the NCLEX-RN\u00ae tests application and analysis using the nursing knowledge you learned in school. You will be tested on how you can use critical thinking skills to make nursing judgments.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Becoming familiar with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsbn.org\/testplans.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCLEX-RN test plan<\/a>\u00a0is a crucial part of performing well on the NCLEX-RN. For example, if you\u2019re interested in learning more about lab values, the laboratory value section provides you with key concepts you should know.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these concepts include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtaining blood specimens through a central line<\/li>\n<li>Patient education regarding laboratory tests and procedures<\/li>\n<li>When to notify a healthcare provider regarding lab values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2016 slight revisions were made to the NCLEX. The terminology and number of questions per category, for example, have remained the same as the previous version. The current passing standard for the NCLEX is 0.00 logits, which will remain in effect through March 21, 2019, the same.<\/p>\n<p>As far as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsbn.org\/RN_Test_Plan_2016_Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">format goes<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All registered nurse candidates must answer a minimum of 75 items. The maximum number of items that a registered nurse candidate may answer is 265 during the allotted six-hour time period. The maximum six-hour time limit to complete the examination includes the tutorial, sample questions and all breaks. Candidates may be administered multiple choice items as well as items written in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsbn.org\/2334.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0alternate formats<\/a>. These formats may include but are not limited to <a title=\"NCLEX-RN\u00ae Question Types\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/blog\/prep\/nclex\/nclex-rn-question-types\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multiple response<\/a>, <a title=\"NCLEX-RN Alternate Format Questions: Fill-in-the-Blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/blog\/prep\/nclex\/nclex-rn-alternate-format-questions-fill-in-the-blank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fill-in-the-blank<\/a> calculation, ordered response, and\/or <a title=\"NCLEX-RN Alternate Format Questions: Hot Spot\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/blog\/prep\/nclex\/nclex-alternate-format-questions-hot-spot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hot spots<\/a>. All item types may include multimedia such as charts, tables, graphics, sound and video. This is also a common approach to the NCLEX-RN. Below is a breakdown of the percentage of each question type you can expect to find on the new exam:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physiological adaptation: 14%<\/li>\n<li>Management of care: 20%<\/li>\n<li>Reduction of Risk Potential: 12%<\/li>\n<li>Safety and Infection Control: 12%<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: 15%<\/li>\n<li>Basic Care and Comfort: 9%<\/li>\n<li>Psychosocial Integrity: 9%<\/li>\n<li>Health Promotion and Maintenance: 9%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, the NCLEX-RN is formatted according to candidate-specific needs, which include alterations in the length of the test. The percentage of questions distributed may also vary from each candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Bottom line: the changes to the NCLEX-RN are no cause for concern. Simply taking the time to become more aware of what you will encounter on NCLEX Test Day already puts you ahead of the curve.
