And for those of us with disabilities, physical impairments, or other health-related challenges, it can be even more daunting.\u00a0<a title=\"sat accommodations\" href=\"https:\/\/accommodations.collegeboard.org\/request-accommodations\">College Board<\/a>, t<\/span>he SAT\u2019s official test-maker, offers accommodations for those whose disabilities impede their ability to test under standard conditions. This means you can qualify for extra time, braille versions of the test, ergonomic keyboards, and other modifications. It\u2019s important to know 1) if you qualify for accommodations, 2) what your accommodation will be, and 3) how to submit a request for SAT accommodations.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h3    avia-builder-el-0  el_before_av_iconlist  avia-builder-el-first  '><h3 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >1. Do I qualify for SAT accommodations?<\/h3><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The College Board lays out a <a title=\"sat accommodations\" href=\"https:\/\/accommodations.collegeboard.org\/eligibility\">specific set of criteria<\/a> to qualify for accommodations. These include the following:<\/span><br \/>\n<div  class='avia-icon-list-container   avia-builder-el-1  el_after_av_heading  el_before_av_heading '><ul class='avia-icon-list avia-icon-list-left av-iconlist-big avia_animate_when_almost_visible avia-iconlist-animate'>\n<li><div  class='iconlist_icon  avia-font-entypo-fontello'><span class='iconlist-char ' aria-hidden='true' data-av_icon='\ue812' data-av_iconfont='entypo-fontello'><\/span><\/div><article class=\"article-icon-entry \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='iconlist_content_wrap'><header class=\"entry-content-header\"><h4 class='av_iconlist_title iconlist_title   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >1. A documented disability.<\/h4><\/header><div class='iconlist_content  '  itemprop=\"text\"  ><p>Documentation could be a doctor&#8217;s report,\u00a0a psychoeducational evaluation, or another current documentation of disability.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer><\/article><div class='iconlist-timeline'><\/div><\/li>\n<li><div  class='iconlist_icon  avia-font-entypo-fontello'><span class='iconlist-char ' aria-hidden='true' data-av_icon='\ue812' data-av_iconfont='entypo-fontello'><\/span><\/div><article class=\"article-icon-entry \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='iconlist_content_wrap'><header class=\"entry-content-header\"><h4 class='av_iconlist_title iconlist_title   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >2. Participation in a College Board exam is impacted.<\/h4><\/header><div class='iconlist_content  '  itemprop=\"text\"  ><p>This means that you&#8217;re unable to take the exam without accommodations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer><\/article><div class='iconlist-timeline'><\/div><\/li>\n<li><div  class='iconlist_icon  avia-font-entypo-fontello'><span class='iconlist-char ' aria-hidden='true' data-av_icon='\ue812' data-av_iconfont='entypo-fontello'><\/span><\/div><article class=\"article-icon-entry \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='iconlist_content_wrap'><header class=\"entry-content-header\"><h4 class='av_iconlist_title iconlist_title   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >3. Requested accommodation is needed.<\/h4><\/header><div class='iconlist_content  '  itemprop=\"text\"  ><p>You should be able to prove that the accommodation you request is necessary. For example, if you ask for extra test time on the SAT, you should have documentation showing that you need extra time to perform timed tasks.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer><\/article><div class='iconlist-timeline'><\/div><\/li>\n<li><div  class='iconlist_icon  avia-font-entypo-fontello'><span class='iconlist-char ' aria-hidden='true' data-av_icon='\ue812' data-av_iconfont='entypo-fontello'><\/span><\/div><article class=\"article-icon-entry \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='iconlist_content_wrap'><header class=\"entry-content-header\"><h4 class='av_iconlist_title iconlist_title   '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >4. Accommodation is received on school tests.<\/h4><\/header><div class='iconlist_content  '  itemprop=\"text\"  ><p>In general, the accommodation you&#8217;re requesting for the SAT should be one you also receive on exams in school. That being said, you won&#8217;t automatically qualify for SAT accommodations just because you receive that accommodation in school. You&#8217;ll need to submit documentation to the College Board to find out if you qualify.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer><\/article><div class='iconlist-timeline'><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><br \/>\n<div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h3    avia-builder-el-2  el_after_av_iconlist  el_before_av_heading  '><h3 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >2. What will my SAT accommodations be? <\/h3><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<a title=\"sat accommodations\" href=\"https:\/\/accommodations.collegeboard.org\/typical-accommodations\/overview\">Available accommodations<\/a> include, but are not limited to, the following:<br \/>\n<b>Extended time:\u00a0<\/b>Includes time and a half, double time, or more.<br \/>\n<b>Computer use for essays:\u00a0<\/b>Allows use of word processors to record essay and short-answer responses.<br \/>\n<b>Extra and extended breaks:\u00a0<\/b>Includes breaks between test sections and extended breaks.<br \/>\n<b>Reading and seeing accommodations:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Includes large-print test books, braille books, braille graphs, MP3 audios, readers, and <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">magnifiers.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>Four-function calculator:\u00a0<\/b>Approved for use on the math section for students with specific disorders involving mathematical calculations.<br \/>\n<div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h3    avia-builder-el-3  el_after_av_heading  el_before_av_sidebar  '><h3 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >3. How do I submit a request?<\/h3><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accommodation\u00a0approval process takes approximately 7 weeks, so it\u2019s important to submit your accommodation\u00a0request early. You can submit your request independently or through your school.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Most students with documented disabilities call upon the help of a school in order to gain approval.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>If you request an accommodation\u00a0through school,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you will need to get in touch with your school&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SSD Coordinator<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who will be the conduit between you and the College Board. Contact your school to find out who your SSD Coordinator is. You\u2019ll need to give him\/her a copy of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/secure-media.collegeboard.org\/pdf\/ssd\/ssd-consent-form-accommodations.pdf\">Parent Consent Form<\/a>, which will allow the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0SSD Coordinator to\u00a0move forward with the approval process. Some students with a current Individualized Education Program (IEP), a 504, etc. will be processed without need for further documentation. SSD Coordinators will find out if the accommodations are approve or denied. In the event that more documentation is needed for approval, the SSD Coordinator will be notified.<\/span><br \/>\n<b>If you request an accommodation\u00a0independently, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you will need to fill out and mail\/fax in the <a title=\"sat accommodations\" href=\"https:\/\/secure-media.collegeboard.org\/ssd\/pdf\/2018-sat-ssd-eligibility-form.pdf\">Student Eligibility Form<\/a>. It\u2019s important to provide all the necessary\u00a0documentation\u00a0as early as possible to ensure that your accommodations are approved in time.<\/span><br \/>\nOnce the accommodations committee has reviewed your application, you&#8217;ll be emailed or mailed a letter outlining their decision. If you receive approval, congratulations! The terms and\u00a0conditions of your accommodation\u00a0will be outlined in the letter.\u00a0You&#8217;ll only need to apply for these accommodations once; once you\u2019ve received approval, you&#8217;ll receive that accommodation on <a title=\"sat accommodations\" href=\"https:\/\/accommodations.collegeboard.org\/after-approval\/overview\">every College Board exam<\/a>\u00a0you take until one year after you graduate from high school.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the accommodations committee denies your application for accommodations, you&#8217;ll receive a letter explaining why.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The College Board cites\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/accommodations.collegeboard.org\/request-accommodations\/denied-requests\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">three common reasons<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0accommodations\u00a0are denied:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More information is needed. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The documentation provided do not indicate a need for the requested accommodations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The request receives partial approval.<\/span><strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your request receives partial approval or you would like to reapply for accommodations, contact the College Board or an SSD Coordinator.<\/span><br \/>\n<div  class='avia-builder-widget-area clearfix  avia-builder-el-4  el_after_av_heading  avia-builder-el-last '><div id=\"text-74\" class=\"widget clearfix widget_text\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><span data-sumome-listbuilder-embed-id=\"abcf7e42f95202964683adf111250b7472e96ead15100d520b72eb4609e079e8\"><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"text-75\" class=\"widget clearfix widget_text\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><span data-sumome-listbuilder-embed-id=\"8fdc0a662abaec34c4fe4aec6c26b99c898b65c7c231689a40e329ebfaf6a105\"><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SAT test day can be\u00a0stressful.
