HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A DOCTOR?

While you’re thinking about getting into the best medical school possible and taking stock of your medical school requirements, you’ve probably already begun asking yourself, how long does it take to become a doctor?
WHAT’S TESTED ON THE MCAT?
The MCAT exam not only measures your content knowledge in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, Psychology, and Sociology—it also tests your critical analysis and reasoning skills. On the 2023 MCAT, you’ll face 230 questions over 6 hours and 15 minutes. The new MCAT requires a lot more stamina and focus than its predecessor.
MCAT CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Living Systems section of the MCAT, often abbreviated as the Chem/Physics section, requires you to solve problems based on knowledge of chemistry, physics, and organic chemistry. The content on this section of the test also includes biochemistry and a small amount of biology.
MCAT BIOLOGY
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section of the MCAT, often called the MCAT Biology or MCAT Bio/Biochem section for short, requires you to solve problems based on knowledge of biological and biochemical concepts combined with scientific inquiry and reasoning skills.
MCAT PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY
The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section of the MCAT, often called the Behavioral Sciences or Psych/Soc section for short, requires you to solve problems based on knowledge of introductory psychology and sociology concepts combined with scientific inquiry and reasoning skills.
DETERMINE WHEN TO TAKE THE MCAT
There are 30 MCAT test dates to choose from in 2023. When deciding on an MCAT test date, consider how long you’ll need to study and that your MCAT scores should be ready by the time medical school applications open in June. Other factors include whether or not you want a weekend test date, seat availability at your preferred testing center, and personal obligations.
