How to register for the NCLEX exam

How To Register for the NCLEX

In order to register for the NCLEX-RN® or NCLEX-PN®, you’ll first receive an application for licensure about six weeks prior to graduation from your nursing school.

On a pre-determined date, you will be required to submit the completed forms and the licensure fees to your nursing school. Upon receipt of an ATT (authorization to test), you will be able to schedule your test date and time. Testing is available year-round, 15 hours a day, 6 days a week, in 6-hour time slots.

Registering for the NCLEX-RN® or NCLEX-PN® Exam

The cost to take the NCLEX-RN® or NCLEX-PN® exam is $200. If you choose to change the exam type (RN/PN) after registration, you’ll incur an additional $50 fee. Additional licensure fees are determined by the individual State Boards of Nursing.

Once you’ve received your ATT, you can register for the NCLEX-RN® or NCLEX-PN® exam with Pearson VUE using either of the following two methods:

  • Registering for the NCLEX® online

To register online, go to pearsonvue.com/nclex (the NCLEX® candidate website). Payment is by credit, debit, or prepaid card (using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express only). Registering online is the recommended method due to high call center volume.

  • Registering for the NCLEX® by phone

Call VUE NCLEX® Candidate Services at 1-866-496-2539 (1-866-49-NCLEX). To register by phone, you must pay using a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit or debit card. Even if you register by phone, you must provide an email address to receive communications from Pearson VUE about your registration.

Pearson VUE no longer accepts registrations submitted by mail. Some states require that the testing application form and fee be sent along with the licensure application and fee. For more information, visit ncsbn.org and download the NCLEX® Examination Candidate Bulletin.
