Oakland University Beaumont School of Medicine students take a four-week emergency medicine rotation in their fourth year. During the required clerkship, students become familiar with the initial evaluation and therapy of a broad variety of adult and pediatric emergencies. Students also develop or improve technical skills in wound care, lumbar puncture, central venous access, eye examination, suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation. For the Class of 2023, the Southeastern Michigan school received more than 7,500 applications for only 125 seats. Those admitted had an overall GPA of 3.8 and a median MCAT score of 509. Students will learn about assessment and management of patients in an emergency department setting.
